St. Luke
Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.
Lancaster, SC 29720 | 803-286-8652

Our Worship Service follows a traditional liturgy of Word and Table. Typically, this begins with the Gathering and Welcome (welcome and parish announcements are made), followed by a musical prelude, choral introit, responsive greeting, hymn and usually an opening collect (prayer). This is followed by the Proclamation of the Word – Scripture readings include the Psalter which is read responsively with a musical response, the affirmation of faith, offertory, anthem, readings from the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures (Old and New Testaments), the “Children’s Moment”, a hymn, Sermon (generally 15-18 minutes), prayers, and the Service of Table (Holy Communion; the order for Holy Communion is located in the Hymnals). Other events, such as the introduction of new members, or the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, may also take place during this part of the Service. The United Methodist Church baptizes persons of all ages – infants, children, and adults. The final portion of the Service is the Sending Forth – a Hymn, Benediction, and Postlude.

Early in the Service, an attendance pad will be passed. Please sign your name(s). If you would like to leave a phone number and/or address, one of the members of the congregation will give you a brief call to welcome you and answer any questions you may have. This is not “high pressure” evangelism, but rather a low-key and informal opportunity to offer information about St. Luke.

We frequently stand during portions of our Worship Service. If you are unable to stand with ease, please feel comfortable in remaining seated.

Our hymns generally are accompanied by our organ and/or piano. All of our hymns are found in The United Methodist Hymnal, and are a mixture of old favorites and newer hymns, many of which no doubt will be “old favorites” for our children!

An Offering is collected at each service. Feel free to donate as you are moved.

Holy Communion (Eucharist) is celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month during worship service in addition to special holy days.

We have Sunday School for all ages beginning at 9:30 am. A nursery is provided beginning at 9:30 am every Sunday. There are age level classes for all children and youth as well as a variety of adult classes (click here to see the list of Sunday School classes we offer). We worship at 10:30 am every Sunday morning in the sanctuary.
When you arrive, you will find both visitor and handicapped parking in front of our building in addition to the other parking areas. Ample parking is provided on the main campus of St. Luke as well as at our Gym across the street.

To enter the building, walk through one of two double doors at the front of the church into the Narthex for immediate entrance into the sanctuary, or come in via the wheel chair ramp through the back of the church by the church offices. Greeters will be at the doors to welcome you on behalf of the congregation, and will direct you to nurseries and the sanctuary. If they cannot answer your questions directly, they will find a staff-member who will be able to assist you.
When you enter our Sanctuary for Worship, ushers will offer you worship bulletins describing the Service. By using the bulletins, the hymnals, and the bibles at your seat, you will be able to easily follow our Service. Feel free to sit anywhere. If the Service is busy, the ushers will assist you in finding a seat. If you arrive after the Service has begun, please wait until the ushers tell you it is appropriate to enter.
